Golf Mobility: Getting Your Body Ready to Play Your Best Round

More distance and a more consistent swing rarely come from a new driver or another bucket of range balls. They come from how well your body actually moves. If your hips, thoracic spine, or shoulders are tight or unstable, your swing will find a way to compensate, and that compensation is usually where inconsistency and soreness both start.

Your swing is only as good as your mobility

Golf asks your body to do something unusual: rotate powerfully through the trunk and hips while keeping your head and spine relatively stable. If you are missing rotation in your thoracic spine or hip internal rotation, your body borrows motion from somewhere else, often your lower back. That is a common source of the tightness golfers along the Grand Strand feel the day after 18 holes in the summer heat.

Restricted mobility does not just cost you distance. It changes your sequencing, your balance through impact, and how much load your joints absorb on every swing. Over a full season of golf, that adds up.

What we actually look at

Instead of guessing which muscle is tight, we assess how your body moves as a system: hip rotation on both sides, thoracic spine rotation, shoulder mobility, ankle mobility, and core stability. This is the same framework used in a TPI movement screen, and it tells us exactly where your swing is being limited by your body rather than your technique.

From there, your physical therapist builds a plan specific to what your body needs, not a generic list of golf stretches. Some golfers need more hip mobility. Others need better thoracic rotation or single-leg stability through the follow-through. The right plan depends on the person.

Care that comes to you, on your schedule

Because we come to your home, we can work around your tee times and your season instead of the other way around. Sessions include hands-on treatment along with mobility work you can carry into your own warm-up routine before you play. Many golfers we work with move through a simple progression: calm down the pain, restore the mobility that has been lost, build strength and control in that new range of motion, and then keep it that way as the season goes on.

Whether you are chasing a lower handicap or just want to play a full round without your back tightening up on the back nine, better mobility is where that starts. Let's build a plan around your swing and your schedule.
